AN INFORMAL NEWSLETTER …….

Number one

All blocks are in now , so we are not too far from Printing. I am planning to complete a number of prints on the long paper roll prior to subjecting the blocks to the pressure of the Road Roller. This Sunday we (a small dedicated group of Printmakers) will be doing just that, printing the long continuous print. Although there will not be a live feed I will endeavour to take photographs of the proceedings. Adrian will hopefully video the day. The local Press have been invited as well. The road roller day will be confirmed once a suitable venue has been located. A concrete pad of about 30 m preferably in doors.

Number two

A great deal of interest has been generated in this project through social media and the Web site. To that end I have fielded a number of questions regarding the purchase of prints. In fact quite a number. While it was never my intention to see this as a money making venture I am sure all struggling, budding or established artists would not mind if work was sold. If you wish to edition and sell prints you will need to contact me with the price of your work and sufficient contact details to allow the purchaser to make direct contact with you the individual artists. (See the attached Appendix 1)

I realised that some of you do not have access to a press big enough to comfortably print a large woodcut. All blocks are with me at the present and will remain here until the end of this project. Marty Vreede of Pakohe Papers, a Master Printmaker of some note, has offered to print editions or part there of if required. If you want to avail yourself of this service, which by the way was common practice back in the day, then you will need to contact Marty directly (06) 344 6873 and book in. Marty will print your edition on Archival Paper and ship to you as soon as completed. You (the artist) will be responsible for signing and editioning your own work and posting the finished prints to the purchaser. The cost to print each block will be $55.00 per print which includes the cost of the archival paper i.e. 10prints will cost $550.00. If you want to print your own you can of course pick up your block from me and return it to me before the Roller print. Important - Each individual artist must be responsible for their own sales. I cannot accept any money on behalf of the artist. You will also have to arrange the printing of editions before the Roller Print as we cannot guarantee that your block will be suitable for further printing once the Roller has printed the final artwork.

Exhibition - There will be an exhibition of all prints in a singular format in January. I will be printing them on 240gsm paper ( not archival) The Edith Gallery has been booked for that show on the 9th of January. It will be a celebration of the event. I will need information from all contributing printers regarding the sale or otherwise of your prints.

The Road roller print - Because of the delay in some blocks arriving to print, the Road Roller print has been shifted more towards January as I need to make a number of quality prints prior to running over the blocks. The Road roller day will now happen at the conclusion the Exhibition at the Edith.

Guinness Book of Records

220 metres. Ten times the size of our effort. Perhaps next year we will consider bringing the Record to Whanganui.
